THE GIRL FROM HALF MOON STREET
(Robertson 2017)

the girl from half moon street is crying
she sits on the curb as the traffic goes by
people laughing, gambling and lying
no one stops to ask her why.

She sits in front of an opium den
no one knows it's even there
no one notices her when they pass
even if they did, they wouldn't care.

Seams from her nylons run into the street
follow the children leaving school
laughing and screaming on their way home
the sky darkens and the air turns cool

the sidewalk is rough the asphalt is smooth
the earth is an oyster without a pearl.
tourists stroll by looking around
she might as well be an invisible girl

Craig Robertson Boston, Massachusetts

I live in a landscape of ghosts and scientific oddities. Memories surface like flying fish in a glassy ocean. Songwriting for me is like a spiderweb; the strangest things fly into it.
